INTRODUCTION:

The Govt. Paramedical Institute newly constructed by Pak Army with collaboration of UAE, is situated in Saidu Sharif.

The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is cognizant of the role of a well-trained Paramedical force, in sufficient number, for the improvement of the Health status of the people. A well planned and organized training of Paramedics was adopted to achieve the health targets and objectives of the health policy; therefore the health Department of the Govt. of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has started a Paramedical training Institute in the District Swat on provincial basis.

  • in 1981, the first batch of 25 students of Medical Technician course was started under the supervision of Medical Superintendent Saidu Group of Hospitals Saidu Sharif, Swat.
  • With effect from 1.12.1983 Paramedical School Saidu Sharif, Swat, was upgraded to Paramedical Institute Saidu Sharif, Swat, and the post of Principal of Paramedical Institute Swat was created and the strength of students was increased to 200.
  • In 1984, two more categories were started i.e. 5 seats of Operation theatre Assistant and 10 seats of Laboratory Assistant.
  • In 1986, the title of Medical Technician course was changed to Health Technician course with 50 seats of 18 months duration.
  • In 1988, the seats of one year Laboratory Assistant course were increased from 10 to 36 and Operation theatre Assistant course were increased from 5 to 10.
  • In 1989, more courses were started in the following seven disciplines for the the whole Province of NWFP (Now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) .
    1. Health Technician 50 seats
    2. Laboratory Assistant 49 seats
    3. T Assistant 42 seats
    4. Aneasthesia Asstt: 32 seats
    5. Radiographer ( X-Ray) 34 seats
    6. ECG Technician 22 seats
    7. Dental Assistant 22 seats

The above one and half year course of Health Technicians and one year courses in the other categories were started with effect from 1989 to 1999.

In1999 the Paramedical Institutes came under the administrative and financial control of Provincial Health Services Academy and all the above-mentioned courses were up-graded from certificate level to two years diploma level courses.

On 23rd April, 2014, the Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, along with His Excellency Mr. Abdullah Al Bashar the Ambassador of UAE and Mr. Abdullah Al Ghafeli Director (UPAP) inaugurated the new building of the Institute, constructed by FWO in collaboration with Government of United Arab Emirates and handed over to the PIMT Swat administration on 2nd May, 2014.

All the required facilities including well equipped class rooms, laboratories, demonstration rooms, museum, library, auditorium/examination hall and Masjid are available along with transport facilities. For the ease of students and faculty, a separate Administration Block provides enough space not only for the offices of teaching faculty and administrative staff but also for the counseling of individual students and tutorials for the groups along with ample space for recreation and meetings.

For the convenience of students, separate hostel facilities are available for about 80 male and 70 female students.
