PHS Nishterabad


Public Health School (PHS) Nishterabad is situated in the heart of Peshawar city.  Its exact location falls in the area known as Lahori, comes under the Union Council # 14 and having its catchment population 14175 (Source: EPI section DoH, KP 2020).  


Public Health School (PHS) Nishterabad originally known as Lady Cunningham Mother Child Health (MCH) center established in Feb 1946 before Pakistan came into being, the oldest MCH center in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Later on after almost 6 years of its inception, during health conference it was decided and upgraded to Public Health School in 1952, also the oldest PHS amongst the 4 PHS in the province

After declaring it Lady Health Visitors (LHVs) training institute, 15 to 20 students were enrolled on scholarship for training in the same year and since then it has trained more than 1000 LHVs working in government as well as in private sectors. With the passage of time number of students was increased with the improvement in syllabus as well as standard of the institute having improvement in the selection criteria. The number of students for training each year has increased up to 60. During the year 2016 to 2018, 20 students were enrolled on self-finance basis which was stopped in 2019 due to reason best known to the PHSA.

Public Health School also has an examination hall for LHVs and nursing examinations of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa besides a student hostel for the already enrolled students.

PHS Nishterabad has grabbed two top positions in the year 2018 & 2019 in the LHV section examination declared by Nursing Examination Board Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 

  1. EPI Center:

Besides the above academic activities there is EPI center, established in 1980. Since then regularly provision of vaccination services to the surrounding area by successfully achieving its monthly target & yearly targets i.e. 41 and 492 children.

  1. MCH Center:

There is also a Mother Child Health (MCH) center which is providing antenatal & postnatal services free of cost including normal deliveries.
